Nutritional Therapy

What is Nutrition?

Nutrition is the process of nourishing or being nourished, especially the process by which a living organism assimilates food and uses it for growth and replacement of tissues’.

That is the explanation of nutrition in a nutshell, (according to the Oxford English dictionary). Did it make sense to you?  How well are you nourished?

What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional therapy involves the application of nutrition health and science in order to promote optimum health and peak performance and prevent disease. It involves dietary intervention and if appropriate, the sensible use of dietary supplements. Nutritional therapy can help to alleviate a wide range of conditions and support recovery from ill health

Nutritional therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and wellbeing.

Every person is, of course, unique and treatment plans will differ according to that particular individual’s requirements and genetic constitution. Nutritional therapists work alongside other healthcare practitioners and GPs to explain diet and lifestyle recommendations. Patients will always be referred to their GP should there be any signs or symptoms of concern.

‘It is much more important to know what sort of a patient has the disease than what sort of disease a patient has’
Dr William Osler

Functional Medicine

Nutritional therapy isn’t just about the way we eat today or have been eating over the past months or years. It’s also about your lifestyle, genetic make-up and the environment in which you function on a daily basis. Any element from this complex web of interactions that is out of balance, can have a major impact on your health and affect your overall equilibrium. At Vitology Nutrition we take each of these factors into account when seeking to explore an individual’s case history.
